Setting Goals and Objectives: A New Year Focus for The Club

As we embark on a fresh new year, it’s the perfect time to revisit and refine our strategies for success. At Sayers Solutions, our small business marketing and strategy club—fondly known as The Club—is dedicated to fostering growth, collaboration, and clarity for business owners. This month, being the first of the year, we collectively agreed to start strong by diving into Part 1 of Sayers Solutions’ business plan model: Where do you want to go – aka Goals and Objectives.

Why Start with Goals and Objectives?

Goals and objectives form the foundation of any successful business plan.

They provide direction, purpose, and measurable benchmarks to ensure you stay on track throughout the year.

Without clearly defined goals, even the best marketing and operational strategies can lack focus, leading to missed opportunities and wasted resources.

At The Club, we recognize the importance of taking a step back to clarify what we want to achieve and how we plan to get there.

This session gave us a chance to:

• Reflect on the past year’s accomplishments and challenges.
• Identify priorities for the year ahead.
• Create actionable and measurable objectives that align with our overarching business goals.

Collaborative Insights from The Club

One of the unique strengths of The Club is the collective wisdom and diverse perspectives our members bring to the table. This month’s discussion was no exception, as we explored questions such as:

• What does success look like for each of our businesses in 2025?
• How can we align our goals with our values and long-term vision?
• What specific, measurable objectives will help us progress toward these goals?

We took turns discussing the goals we had set for our businesses.

Following this, we used the GROW model to challenge and refine them.

GROW stands for Goals, Reality, Obstacles, and Want.

These headers guided us to reexamine our goals and create strategies to make them achievable.

The meeting concluded with homework for each attendee: to reflect on and document their thoughts on their goals.

As always, the session was filled with fascinating conversations and insights, revealing both commonalities and stark contrasts in the experiences and approaches of our members. The way each person tackles challenges and seizes opportunities was truly inspiring. I know for sure that I am already looking forward to next week!

Revisiting the Sayers Solutions 4 Part Plan

The Sayers Solutions 4-Part Plan is a business planning model designed to simplify the process into manageable, actionable steps, ensuring it is both meaningful and effective.

Part 1—Goals and Objectives—is all about defining what you want to achieve and ensuring that your ambitions are both realistic and motivating.

Next month we may look to emphasize the SMART criteria: ensuring that objectives are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

By focusing on these principles, attendees will be to:

• Set clear revenue, customer acquisition, or growth targets.

• Outline specific marketing strategies to implement.

• Determine the resources and support needed to achieve their goals.

Looking Ahead

This month’s focus on goals and objectives was just the beginning. As the year progresses, The Club will continue working through the Sayers Solutions 4 Part Plan model, addressing topics such as strategy development, marketing execution, and performance tracking.
