Twice Recognised FSB Volunteer Champion

Merewyn Sayers, from Sayers Solutions, was recognised twice for the work that she does as West Yorkshire Area Lead at the National FSB Volunteer Champion Event.

If you don’t already know, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is a lobbying organisation. In addition, they also offer a wide range of member benefits.

Being a Volunteer

Merewyn has been involved as a volunteer since becoming a member 6 or more years ago. Just after she joined, she attended her branch AGM. That’s what she thought you were supposed to do as a member.

At the AGM they asked for committee members, so she put herself forward … “why not?” she asked herself … They then went on to ask whether anyone was interested in putting themselves forward for the Secretary role. “In for a penny, in for a pound” was her thought and threw herself into the role.

FSB no longer have branches or hold local AGM’s. However volunteers are still a vital part of the organisation and Merewyn is still involved as a volunteer.

Now instead of 5 branches (Kirklees, Wakefield, Calderdale, Leeds and Bradford) reporting to the West Yorkshire Region. West Yorkshire is now referred to as an Area and Merewyn Sayers is the elected Area Lead for West Yorkshire.

Simon Monaghan was also recognised at the National FSB Volunteer Champion Event this month. Simon held the other Area Lead role alongside Merewyn. But stood down during 2020, after accepting a full time employed role at RTC.

Sharon Jandu has recently been co-opted to fill Simon’s boots. Working alongside Merewyn, Barney Mynott (the Development Manager) and the rest of the invaluable active members, who volunteer their time and expertise to support small businesses.

Integral to Sayers Solutions

FSB plays an integral part of Sayers Solutions. It provides invaluable insight to the influences impacting small businesses. As well as introduces us to a wonderful variety of amazing small businesses, who adapt, pivot and flourish, even through these difficult times.
